Concordance - Adherence - Compliance
As many as half of the established treatments for chronic diseases remain unsuccessful because important rules are not complied with, or because medication is not taken as directed. The results of these failures include more frequent and more severe illness.
This is especially true with asthma, because many patients only take their medicine as an acute therapy measure – when they feel they need it. But a regular daily anti-inflammatory (so-called controller) therapy – before you feel you need it – can greatly reduce the number and severity of attacks.
The goal of the patient support project is to improve patients' understanding. If newly diagnosed asthmatics understand the connection between their illness, their way of living, and the doctor's expertise, and if they listen to and follow the advice of other, more experienced asthmatics, they can greatly improve their quality of life. Specialists describe this chain of understanding as "Concordance – Adherence – Compliance".
