Asthma

childrenApproximately 300 million people around the world have asthma, and it has become more common in both children and adults globally in recent years.

Estimates have shown that the number of people with asthma could grow to as many as 400-450 million people worldwide by 2025.

Around 30 million people in Europe have asthma, and as many as 6million suffer symptoms which are characterised as severe. Around 1.5million people in Europe live in fear of dying from an attack.

The total cost of asthma in Europe is €17.7bn per year, and productivity lost to poor asthma control is estimated at €9.8bn per annum (ERS, White Book, 2003).
