EFA Projects Intern (m/f)

To start in March 2014


EFA is the network of European patients’ organisations that represents people with allergy, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at European level. EFA is dedicated in making Europe a place where people with these diseases have the right to best quality of care and safe environment, live uncompromised lives and are actively involved in all decisions influencing their health.

The EFA Projects Intern will assist the EFA Membership and Programme Manager in:


  • Implementing the project plans of EFA projects,
  • Liaising with EFA’s members and external stakeholders to ensure participation for EFA project deliverables and events,
  • Fulfilling EFA’s activities and deliverables for various EU projects,
  • Coordinating external services for fulfilling project needs,
  • Attending events and workshops of relevance to EFA’s complete project portfolio to represent EFA’s interests in patient advocacy and promote its activities,
  • Updating EFA’s website and supporting in producing monthly newsletters,
  • Assisting EFA’s social media presence and development for its EU project involvement,
  • Organising internal meetings and external events where applicable for EFA and EU projects.


You will have the possibility to take responsibility/leadership on specific tasks according to your ability and interest. As part of a small team, you will work closely on both EFA’s own projects and EU projects where EFA participates actively as a member of the consortium. Both the EU and EFA’s own projects focus on the specific disease areas of asthma, allergy and COPD and range from collaboration in very technical scientific study to healthcare system change, thus permitting valuable experience in project implementation.


You should have the following experience and qualities:

  • Preferably at the end stage of your undergraduate or postgraduate studies,
  • Interest in respiratory diseases (specifically asthma, respiratory allergy and/or COPD) or healthcare system change in general and in patients’ representation in particular,
  • Perfect working proficiency in English (with languages considered a plus),
  • Excellent writing and communications skills,
  • An understanding of EU institutions and processes is desirable,
  • Expertise using Microsoft Office and Word Press content management system,
  • Work experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter and Linked-In – others a bonus),
  • Good social skills, a keen sense of responsibility and initiative,
  • Willingness to work in a small international team,
  • Availability for occasional evening work and travel.
