We consider patient and patients representatives’ direct feedback is crucial to help stimulate policy discussions and inspire new approaches to resolve most of the problems confronting them on a daily basis.
At present, EFA gathers 41 national patient associations representing 25 European countries and over 400,000 allergy, asthma and COPD patients living in Europe.
Thanks to our advocacy activities at EU level and our role in many EU-funded projects, we provide valuable information to patient associations across Europe and create opportunities for them to familiarise and influence European health policy.
A broader movement based in international solidarity
EFA membership is an opportunity for European patient associations of allergy and respiratory diseases to work together through specific working groups on asthma and allergy, COPD, food allergy, environmental determinants, as well as patient education, depending on their priorities.
By joining forces, EFA membership:
- Ensures access to updated information on the development of European public health policies,
- provides a louder voice for national members when approaching local policy makers,
- enables their representation in EU policies,
- offers a springboard for networking with other patients associations in Europe and,
- proposes opportunities for training and capacity building possibilities.
Become a member of the EFA family
If you share our aim and values, we would be delighted to welcome you.
EFA members pay €500 annual membership fee, which grants voting rights for each respective patient association at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Associations in special situations can apply for a trial membership without a fee, however without the right to vote.
EFA is happy to accept applications from any European patient association with specialisation in allergy, asthma or COPD which demonstrates interest in joining and fulfill the membership criteria.
The EFA Board reviews all applications and then decides whether or not to include applicants as participants at the AGM, where the EFA members view the application and vote on their inclusion.
