EFA Member Allergy UK has published the results of a survey to gather patient views on the availability of adrenaline auto injectors on educational establishments. Adrenaline auto-injector devices are the first line treatment in a potentially life-threatening anaphylactic reaction.
With the participation of 1,600 people, the results are overwhelming. 99% of parents/carers are in support of schools holding generic adrenaline auto injectors. And it was not just parents who asked for this measure: 98% healthcare professionals and 96% teachers are in agreement too.
Allergy UK and the Anaphylaxis Campaign are working with the professional paediatric groups of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and together are seeking for a change in the law.
The findings have now been presented to the UK Department of Health, who will consider the proposal along with the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
