EFA Member the Asthma Society of Ireland (ASI) and the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) have run an Inhaler Technique awareness campaign to encourage people with asthma to check that they are using their inhaler device correctly. According to research, two out of three of Ireland’s 470,000 people with asthma may be unknowingly aggravating their condition simply by not using their inhalers correctly. To address this issue, Asthma Society of Ireland has created new inhaler technique videos accessible to all, and arranged with all local pharmacies free of charge inhaler checking services throughout the month of September. The association has also developed publications on how to use inhalers correctly; they can be downloaded from the ASI’s website.  Over the coming months ASI will run free inhaler technique workshops for healthcare professionals. Information about them can be found on the event’s section of the Society’s website.
