EU
- Air Quality

On the 30th of Mach, EFA Deputy Director Roberta Savli presented on Uncompromised ambient air quality in resource-efficient buildings at the Globe EU debate on Healthy and Resource Efficient Buildings - Merging the Social and Ecological Agendas.

Globe EU is a group of around 50 Members of the European Parliament and it serves as a platform for discussing policy proposals and for coordinating political actions. The event was co-chaired by Finnish MEPs Sirpa Pietikäinen (European Peoples’ Party, EPP) and Anneli Jäätteenmäki (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, ALDE).

With 90% of people’s lives spent inside, there is growing evidence that indoor environmental quality is critical to our health and wellbeing. Poor air quality in Europe has been considered responsible for 2 million healthy years lost every year. The situation is particularly problematic for people with allergy, asthma and COPD, who are the first to react to bad indoor air quality.

During the conference, the new European Commission’s proposal on energy efficient buildings was discussed. In the comming months, EFA will mobilise to include indoor air quality considerations into that legislative piece.
