Asthma

Severe asthma is a difficult to control condition that affects people’s health and daily life and puts them at frequent risk of hospitalisation. The treatment for severe asthma absorbs many resources and represents an economic burden for the healthcare sector.

Some of these challenges were addressed during the first International Course on Severe Asthma, held in Palermo on April 26th and 27th. The course involved some of the highest specialists in the field globally who gave lectures to the participants and guided them during thematic working groups focused on diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

The chair of the course, Prof. Nicola Scichilone, from the University of Palermo invited also EFA to share the work patients organisations do in fighting severe asthma. Giuseppe De Carlo and Breda Flood, patient ambassador and EFA past president, presented the main achievement of the organisation in this field, highlighting in particular the experiences with U-BIOPRRED and AirPROM and the way EFA is involving asthma patients in research projects at EU level.
