As part of our role as partner in the SynAir-G EU Horizon research project consortium, EFA organized on the 9th of October 2023, the first project workshop project.

SynAir-G is an EU-funded project focused on understanding the synergies of indoor air pollutants and their impact on childhood health and wellbeing. The project partners including EFA aim to develop a comprehensive and responsive multipollutant monitoring system, deploy intelligent and green interventions and advance policy for healthier schools and children.

“Episode 1: Indoor air quality in schools: impact on children wellbeing and role of research in Europe”

The workshop, organized in an hybrid format in Montpellier (France), brought together researchers, patient advocates and physicians to discuss the current status of indoor air quality in schools across Europe. Participants discussed the status and challenges of Indoor Air Quality in schools in three European countries (France, Greece and Poland), the socio-economic and technical barriers to air quality indoors.

Discussions revolved around the impact of indoor air quality on children health, teachers and staff members, and ways to develop innovative devices and services in the school sector, through a participatory approach.

Among the panelists, two EFA member representatives, Pascale Couratier, General Director of French Association of Allergies Prevention (AFPRAL), and Artur Badyda, Polish Federation of Asthma, Allergy and COPD Patients’ Organisations, presented their national cases, bringing to the centre the perspective of people living with allergies and asthma. The involvement of EFA members was crucial to learn more about the status of Indoor Air quality in schools across Europe and its impact on children’s health.
