EFA is delighted to have been selected as a member of the newly-established European Commission’s Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Stakeholder Network, to bring the perspectives of patients with allergy, asthma and COPD to the work at the EU level in the area of health technology assessment.

The HTA Stakeholder Network has been created following the entry into force of the Regulation 2021/2282 on health technology assessment (EU HTAR), which sets out the requirement of establishing such a group to support the work of the Member State Coordination Group on Health Technology Assessment, and its subgroups upon request.

The HTA Stakeholder Network will serve to facilitate the dialogue between stakeholder organisations, and will specifically be involved in activities such as consultations in preparation or amendment of the HTA Coordination Group’s annual work programme, and the meetings with the HTA Coordination Group at least once a year.

First meeting of the HTA Stakeholder Network

On 14 June, EFA participated in the inaugural meeting of the HTA Stakeholder Network in Brussels, together with other stakeholder member organisations, as well as representatives from the European Commission, the Member States’ representatives in the HTA Coordination Group, and representatives from the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

During the meeting, members of the HTA Stakeholder Network had the opportunity to learn more about the  implementation plans of the EU HTA Regulation, as well as to discuss the role of stakeholders in the implementation. Moreover, the meeting consisted of four rotational discussion groups, dedicated to discuss gaps and solutions to the methodological and procedural guidance, joint clinical assessments, joint scientific consultations and to the identification of emerging health technologies.

EFA has been actively involved in the development of the HTA legislative framework since it first entered the European Commission agenda in 2016.
