The Swedish government is expected to put a formal proposal to the parliament in February, providing for a general smoking ban in public spaces such as outdoor restaurants, train platforms and playgrounds. Health Minister Annika Strandhäll announced the new legislative proposal, emphasizing that the great majority of ninety percent of the population does not smoke. While the draft legislation protects non-smokers from the negative effects of passive-smoking, it also includes a proposal purposing to reduce consume of the Swedish moist powder tobacco, called “snus”.
