EFA is pleased to announce that the HealthVent project, in which it is a partner, is organising an event at the European Parliament in Brussels on the 20thof February to present the health-based ventilation guidelines for Europe it has developed to better protect people from the health problems caused by poor indoor air quality. This month EFA has requested members, in cooperation with the European Lung Foundation (ELF), to ask patients with chronic respiratory diseases who are dependent upon the use of bottled oxygen for travels to come forwards and submit their stories for a chance to win a small prize. Read More...

2013 got off to a busy start for EFA on the EU policy front. January marked the beginning of the ‘Year of Air 2013’, during which the European Commission will highlight the importance of clean air for all; EFA compiled briefings on the recently published Tobacco Products Directive as well as on the EU 2013 Health Work Plan, and is currently preparing a position paper on the recently released Medical Devices proposal; the Irish Presidency has announced its priorities in the field of health. In member news this month Prévention des allergies is seeking to hear from children and young adults with food allergy in advance of a large conference on the subject to be held in France. EFA has been busy participating and contributing to meetings and events since 2013 began. Barcelona was the location for the recent U-BIOPRED project AGM, several conferences have been taking place around Brussels in the context of the 2013 Year of Air, an event on clinical trials was held in the European Parliament, Berlin was the location for the annual meeting of the MeDALL project and in Brussels EFA actively participated in a conference on the future of e-Health in Europe. There are currently no valid measures available to capture patients’ perception of their own physical activity levels. A new project, the PROactive project, which began in June 2012, is aiming to remedy this by developing an instrument that can measure the physical activity of COPD patients.
