During 2022 the EP Interest Group on Allergy & Asthma focused on advocacy linked to extraordinary policy circumstances, such as the publication of the Healthier Together-EU Noncommunicable Diseases Initiative.
The event ‘For an EU NCD Initiative that prevents and cares’, hosted by three leading MEPs of the Group, demonstrated the relevance of tackling allergy and asthma within the EU action on chronic diseases and urged the Commission to amend for this lack of scope.
Interest Group members MEPs Sirpa Pietikäinen (EPP), Juozas Olekas (S&D) and Tilly Metz (Greens), also tabled a parliamentary question on the persistent under-prioritisation of allergy within the EU plans, policies and budgets and called for supporting allergy care and research.
EFA supported the Interest Group communication with two newsletters and welcomed one new member, MEP Ladislav Ilcic (ECR-Croatia). The Interest Group said goodbye to our former Vice-Chair, Manuel Pizarro (S&D-Portugal) who joined his national government as Minister of Health.
