myAirCoach project for an mHealth device for asthma management is about entering its last year of activities and the innovative tools and systems are starting to become concrete. As a result, the scientific and ICT communities are recognizing the groundbreaking novelties behind the project.

The smart adapter, developed by myAirCoach partner IHP, was selected for the Innovation Radar Prize, a European Commission initiative to identify high potential innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation ICT projects, under the category “Horizon 2020 ICT innovator”. The smart adapter device can be used with most available inhalers for asthma patients to monitors all relevant insights needed for assessing adherence to the patient’s care plan and medication. After a round of public vote via web, the myAirCoach device was listed among the 16 finalists and IHP was invited for a pitch at the ICT Proposers Day held on Monday 26th in Bratislava.

Although myAirCoach did not get the final prize, we are happy to have reached the finals, which indicates the project has great potential for improving the quality of life of asthma patients. This was also clear at the ERS Congress, where myAirCoach was presented by the University of Manchester and the University of Patras in two different poster sessions and received very good feedback from the chairs of the sessions and from attendees.

The winner of Horizon 2020 ICT Innovator category was Realeyes, an Estonian research-oriented SME measuring people’s emotional response to video content using webcams. The overall Innovation Radar Prize was awarded to Intrinsic-ID developed within the EU-funded project PUFFIN, an authentication technology based on the electronic fingerprint of devices.
