EFA’s activity at the ERS Congress in Munich EFA will be active during European Respiratory Society Congress that will take place in Munich from the 6-10 September 2014. Apart from participating in the meetings concerning the EU projects where we are partners, namely EARIP, U-BIOPRED and AirPROM, we will hold: -         An EFA Alignment meeting with respiratory patient groups, on Monday 8 September, from 13h00 to 15h00, in room 2.251 (ICM 2nd floor). -         A Poster Discussion: Presentation of EFA’s “Enabling Air Travel with Oxygen in Europe” publication, on Sunday 7 September, from 14h45 to 16h45 at B2-2. During the Congress, we and EFA Members will make sure that the European patient perspective is present in the discussion, we will participate in several patients’ gatherings and we will update on EU projects and our own projects. If you are also attending the Congress, do not hesitate to come and visit us at the World Village, stand number ICM 22a. We would be delighted to meet you and share with share views and patient experiences with you.   EFA welcomes ERS prioritisation on leadership and partnership in medicine development for respiratory diseases European Respiratory Society’s annual presidential summit dug-in deeply into current status and environment for developing new and effective medicines to address real needs of patients as individuals. EFA’s Susanna Palkonen emphasized the need to work with patients and their representatives and our board member Per-Ake Wecksell shared his positive experience as being involved in the U-BIOPRED project Safety Monitoring Board. ERS is going to launch a research agency that should further facilitate much needed collaboration between regulators, patients, industry, clinicians and academia – all stakeholders present at the summit - in Europe. While the new EU Clinical trials regulation will help, all stakeholders need to take active role to find better treatments and ultimately prevent and cure respiratory diseases in timely manner. EFA in events ERS President, Peter Barnes, and EFA Board Member, Per-Acke Wecksell, during the Summit[/caption] EFA contributes to our sustainable funding partner’s patient involvement EFA’s new board member gave a presentation at the GSK Government Affairs and Patient Advocacy Network meeting on how we contribute for patient centered European and national health policies and how we see the longstanding sustainable partnership with GSK, based on trust and independence. Novartis held a global meeting with patient groups to discuss how it can further integrate patient needs into R&D and what kind of initiatives exist around the globe from patients to empower involvement, such as the EUPATI, European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation.
