EFA President Mikaela Odemyr spoke at the Second Strategic Forum on Allergic Diseases and Asthma organised by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). She gave a speech on patient priorities and future directions in the field of allergy, asthma, and clinical immunology.

In her speech, Mikaela Odemyr highlighted the need to have a patient-centred approach to healthcare and highlighted the need to take patient's needs and concerns when developing health policy.

"Our communities have been very much affected by the COVID-19 crisis. In the beginning we experienced the uncertainty, and at the same time the inexorably feeling that patients belonged to the high-risk groups. Some have isolated themselves from March thereon and live with fear.

Yet, and unfortunately, the patient groups representing them were not included in the crisis response. This means that in a crisis, patient involvement is put aside. The next preparedness efforts for a pandemic need to learn from these deficiencies and integrate as one major pillar patient involvement in crisis response. This way patient groups like EFA can contribute and serve our communities better, communicating about the continuum of care management, clinical trials and risk group communication. No patient should be put aside."
