EFA’s role in EU funded research projects is to provide the patients persepective to the research process and to ensure that patietns are updated on the latest project news and developments. In February, we have contributed to different stages of the research and dissemination activities of MyAirCoach, U-BIOPRED, MeDALL and EARIP. MyAirCoach update On February 12, the European Commission published the first news on myAirCoach (Analysis, modelling and sensing of both physiological and environmental factors for the customized and predictive self-management of Asthma). EFA, together with our member Asthma UK, represent patients among MyAirCoach consortium. Our role in the project is to ensure proper dissemination and visibility of the project, especially among patients. In this sense, we are currently working on the project’s visual identity, defining the future logo and templates to ensure visibility and consistency in all communications in the future. This will be underpinned by a dissemination plan that we are preparing, as part of myAirCoach communication strategy. It will be in line with the European Commission Open Data Strategy for scientific information, as featured in the Horizon 2020 Programme. If you would like to know more on the Commission’s “Open Science (Open Access)” Policy, please find more information here. U-BIOPRED Newsletter As part of our dissemination role in the EU project U-BIOPRED (Unbiased BIOmarkers in PREDiction of respiratory disease outcomes), in January we distributed the last newsletter of the project , in collaboration with our partners in the U-BIOPRED WP9. This newsletter reflects U-BIOPRED progress in 2014, especially the project’s main achievements and the quality of the research data that was produced. It also includes a description of the patient input platform and some of this group’s achievements, such as the revised bronchoscopy leaflet for patients and rhinovirus leaflet for patients. For more interesting news and updates from the project, please check the news section on the U-BIOPRED website. MeDALL results will be showcased in an event in Brussels On 5-6 of February, MeDALL (Mechanisms of the Development of Allergy) consortium partners shared the research outcomes from the different work packages. The meeting celebrated in Paris, served to discuss how to integrate the research data collected, to investigate new research hypothesis and pathways and to define a plan for disseminating project results to the patients, public and policy makers. We found of particular interest the presentation on “Asthma risk prediction tools for children” by Jet Smith from the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care of the University Medical Center of Utrecht. According to his research evidence shows that there is no proper way of identifying children that will develop asthma at school age. MeDALL consortium will have the opportunity to validate the prediction rules contained in the systematic review. In terms of dissemination, EFA proposed to organize a public event in Brussels to present MeDALL results. The event will focus on how patients will benefit from the project and on the translation of the research outcomes into political recommendation and guidelines. The public event should take place at the end of May and will be open for a wide audience. EU Projects Update EARIP partners during the meeting in London.[/caption] On February 11 EFA participated in the EARIP (European Asthma Research and Innovation Partnership) partner meeting in London to discuss how to make the best use of the project outcomes and of each partner’s networks in order to establish an influential European Innovation Partnership for Asthma. In the first part of the meeting, held at Asthma UK offices, all partners presented the work done in each workpackage and future plans, including our activities under workpackage 4 on health care change in asthma, presented by EFA Project Manager Giuseppe De Carlo. Afterwards, the European Lung Foundation presented “EARIP State of Play” and overview of the key areas needed in asthma research. Asthma UK introduced “The case for a European Innovation Partnership”, which constitutes the framework for the establishment of the European Innovation Partnership for Asthma (EIP). The afternoon provided the opportunity to identify the key people and organizations that need to be approached for the creation of a comprehensive EIP for Asthma, like the one existing for healthy ageing.
