From 14 to 19 September, EFA Member the Polish Federation of Asthma, Allergy and COPD Patients celebrated the 3rd Polish Spirometry Days event. The campaign slogan was  “Breathe Clean Air” (Oddychaj czystym powietrzem).

45,000 people die each year from lung diseases related to air pollution in Poland.

Ineffective diagnosis of lung diseases is a real problem, affecting more than 50% of asthma patients and up to 80% of patients living with COPD in Poland. This is the reason why the patients’ association partnered with 242 medical centers, hospitals and medical facilities to offer free spirometry testing all over the country during the Spirometry Days. The association estimates that around 6,000 people had their lungs tested. Smokers were informed about cessation tehcniques and underwent the motivation and addiction tests and those patients already diagnosed with asthma and COPD received a booklet on how to effectively treat the disease.
