COPD
- Tobacco & Smoking

EFA Portuguese member RESPIRA has run awareness campaigns in Portuguese schools to inform about tobacco. The sessions were led by ex-smokers that gave a vivid testimony of their experiences with tobacco to 150 boys and girls (ages 13 /15). The opportunity to directly discuss with them health problems caused by tobacco habit, like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, proved to be effective for some. Especially when the students were invited to climb stairs with a clip in their noses to simulate the respiratory problems that most people with COPD struggle with. The initiative has been so effective that RESPIRA’s team calendar for September is already fully booked with plenty schools visits!
