Our member Deutscher Allergie- und Asthmabund e.V. (DAAB) represented EFA at the 14th November roundtable with NGOs organized by the European Food Security Agency (EFSA) to exchange best practices and, to provide EFSA with feedback on the allergenicity risk assessment of GMOs (genetically modified organisms). EFSA regularly consults with stakeholders and we had previously invited to another workshop focused on allergenicity of GMOs.

This time, Ms Sabine Schnadt from DAAB brought EFA patients perspective at the “GMO allergenicity guidance consultation group: Review and lessons learnt” where she stressed the need for guidance on risk assessment for unintended allergens in food at European Union level.

The meeting was attended by 12 NGOs, EFSA representatives and a few members of the European Commission (DG SANTE) in an observer capacity. The roundtable discussed other topics such as endocrine disruptors, bee health or feed.
