Better alignment of social and environment policies and improved local action is necessary to tackle environmental justice issues. These are the results of a report issued by the European Environment Agency in early February 2019.

The report draws attention to close links between social and environmental problems across Europe.

Eastern, Southern and poor urban regions are affected most by pollution

The key findings of the report show that Eastern and Southern European regions are more exposed to air pollutants, including particulate matter (PM). In large cities, in particular poorer communities tend to be exposed to higher levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
