On March 20th, the European Parliament Interest Group on Allergy and Asthma organised the last policy meeting of the current mandate, aimed at renewing the EU policy agenda on allergy and airways diseases. EFA President Mikaela Odemyr presented the European patients' call for action: #ShowLeadership on allergy and airways diseases.

During the event, EFA President Mikaela Odemyr presented #ShowLeadership, a patient-driven campaign from EFA encouraging action among those decisions-makers, who could support allergy and asthma patients to live better lives everywhere in Europe. The event was co-hosted by Members of the European Parliament Sirpa Pietikäinen (EPP, FI) and Pavel Poc (S&D, CZ).

The #ShowLeadership campaign will be officially launched in April and will run throughout 2019 focusing on the situation that patients in Europe face when it comes to diagnosis, care, prevention and participation in their care.

The different policy action calls cascaded through #ShowLeadership steam from a-pan European survey on asthma and COPD patients' access and views what policy makers should improve. The study was run by EFA in 2018 in seven European countries.

The event brought together the European Commission (DG ENV), World Health Organization (WHO), the Finnish Permanent Representation to the EU and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to discuss leadership in cross-sectoral policies to care and tackle allergy and airways diseases in future.

#ShowLeadership and join us in the campaign. How will you show leadership?
