Food Allergy
- Food Safety

EFA has co-signed a joint letter addressed to the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), the body responsible for all matters regarding the implementation of the Joint Food Standards Programme of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Initiated by a coalition of 22 food allergy patients’ organisations, the letter raises the concerns and recommendations the patient community has around food allergen labelling. The moment is timely, given the ongoing revision of CAC recommendations on Food Labelling.   Discussion Paper.

Opportunity to improve the current Precautionary Allergen Labelling principle

The signatory organisations including EFA call for the development of a guidance on the use of precautionary allergen labelling. Furthermore, the letter is asking for the inclusion of patient organisations as key stakeholders in the electronic working group that will be created in July 2019.

EFA is following closely the ongoing discussions in the relevant CAC Committees, as the Codex Alimentarius is the only and key international body disseminating good policy and standard food practices.
